Hopefully you all read Justin’s email (because we all read every email with pertinent Willard information as soon as possible… right?) but just in case it got lost in the shuffle, here are the most important updates for this week:
Last week, Willard Exec along with our wonderful RAs hosted a Willard Town Hall for residents to voice their concerns and share ideas to make Willard a safer, cleaner space for everyone. We hear you, and we will be creating guidelines with expectations for Willard residents. In the meantime, you can read the meeting minutes from the town hall.
In an effort to raise sustainability within Willard, we are implementing an honor code reusable bag program. There will be boxes near the two main entrances/exits with reusable bags available for use. Please consider donating any extra bags you might have in your room and please don’t steal them. <3
We want to hear your thoughts and feedback on the housing process this year! Fill out this anonymous housing survey with anything we could do to make it better for future Woos (especially with All-Gender Housing).
RCB Penny Wars are here! In this annual charity competition, we compete against other residential colleges for RCB points in the upcoming Field Day event. All donations from this event go to the American Cancer Society. In order to participate, venmo @NU-Relay detailing whether you want positive points for Willard or negative points for any of the other residential colleges!
Sign up for RCB Jeopardy! Refreshments/snacks will be provided, and the first and second place teams will receive prizes! Sign up with a team of friends (up to 4) or join another random team. The last day to sign up is May 9thand the event is Sunday, May 15th at 2pm.
Our Wellness Chair is hosting Book Club for the month of May! The selected book is Book Lovers by Emily Henry. You can purchase a copy or talk to our Wellness Chair (cameronchang2025@u.northwestern.edu) if purchasing this book is an issue for you! Book Club will be on May 31st at 8 p.m. Hope to see you there!
Book Lovers Synopsis:
Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.
Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute.
If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.
Upcoming Events
Starting us off on Monday, High Table is 12-1pm in the Allison Mezzanine! Murielle Standley (graduate associate) and Alejandra Reinoso(prospective GA) will be joining us, so please come and show them a warm Willard welcome!
That night, at 7pm stop by the WFFL for Journaling Club, or make your way up to SPAC at 9pm for IM Soccer!
Tuesday, learn about Eurovision at the 7pm Fireside in the WFFL. At the same time, grab some Mediterranean food at Munchies, featuring food from Habibi Mediterranean Grill!
Wednesday at 7pm, come to the WFFL to learn about Cats Who Compost. They will be giving tips on how to compost and handing out some small bins to collect compost in your own rooms! From there, you’ll bring them to the (soon-to-be-purchased) tubs in the kitchen for our Sustainability Chair to consolidate and drop off at the nearest drop-off site. Cats Who Compost is hoping to open another compost drop-off site in South campus, find out more and donate to the cause here.
Thursday is another busy day, starting with High Table in the Allison Mezzanine from 12-1pm.
Then, learn about Study Abroad options at NU at the Fireside in the WFFLat 4pm.
Thursday night marks the first of a new weekly event in Willard: Trashy TV Thursday! We’ll be watching The Ultimatum in the WFFL at 8pm!
Lastly, wish a very happy birthday to Kai Kraemar on Saturday! (PSA, I’m not sure how some people’s birthday’s ended up on this calendar and some didn’t, but if you’re worried about your birthday not being included, you can always check with me (781-738-4004). And happy belated birthday to all those I have missed!)
